When J1, A1 and S found our apartment in Alhama De Granada,
they were a bit worried that I would miss my garden in Ha
Noi.
Surprisingly, I don't
Well, okay. I miss running after Lulu, the neighbor's cat,
scampering like mad when she saw me, or the rats that ate
the fruit in the garden. Even the stupid snails who seemed
to flood the garden at night.
But I've got something else just as special in our Andalucia
apartment: 4 balconies!!! That's right, baby, F-O-U-R balconies!

On one side of the house is one long balcony
where A2 and J2 spend a lot of time sunbathing or watching the
horizon.
But
for me, it's the place to watch the occasional herd of goats
when they come back from the field.
They usually arrive at night. That's when I spend hours sitting
there, just watching them, obverving their behavior, taking
mental notes of what makes them tick --- so I'll know just
how to scare them next time I get close to one of them.
On the other side of the house, there are three
balconies that look right on to the street. This is where I
see life pass by.
I see all sorts of things when I sit on this
balcony.
There's an old farmer that passes by almost every day with
his donkey and his dog.
There are also a few cats and dogs that walk about the area
all the time. I'm not sure where they live but it looks like
they know the place like the back of their paws.
At other times, I see children playing with
their footballs occasionally calling my name (one of them's
the upstair neighbors).
So it's really like my own little garden out here---without
the snails but just as interesting.
Our apartment is also a bit on the town's edge,
so there's a track 1 minute away where I can go for a walk twice
a day.
It's a very nice track, I think. It's the kind of place where
you see goats and wild cats.
There used to be burros and horses here, but I haven' seen
them for a month, now, Thank God.
Andalucia Apartments For Canines - A
Warning
Now for those of you canines with families who are thinking
about moving into an apartment in Andalucia, you need to be
well prepared. If you have a rough real-dog bark like mine,
you'll have to learn how to contain it.
I can't tell you how many times I've been told off for barking.
"Thomas...No Barking! Everyone in all three floors can
hear you!
"Thomas...No Barking! It's 1:00 in the morning!"
"Thomas...Thomas...Thomas..NOOOO...BARKING!!!!!"
Seriously, they're beginning to sound like cats in heat!
Rufff....GRRrrrrr....Ruff...GRRrrrrr,
